The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

            For the book, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, by Jennifer E. Smith, I thought of using a charm bracelet for fans to buy. On the bracelet there would be a heart, a half of a heart, an Eiffel tower, a ring, an airplane, wedding cake and many other things that are represented in this book.  This idea was created because there were so many parts in the book that could be incorporated into the bracelet with symbols. For example the book takes place in Paris for her Dad’s wedding and in Paris there is an Eiffel tower, so that is the symbol we can use to represent Paris. This line represents why I chose to put an airplane on to the charm bracelet, “The screen behind them has already been switched to announce the next flight from JFK to Heathrow…” (Smith.6.9-10). This shows that Hadley was in the airport waiting to fly to Paris and that is why I choose to put an airplane on the charm bracelet. This quote explains why I chose to put the broken heart on the charm bracelet, “Mom finally announced that she and Dad would be splitting up, and that he’d be staying on for another semester at Oxford” (Smith.20.16-18). This represents a heart split in two because Hadley’s parents are getting a divorce. The heart represented the two parents splitting up. This quote represents why I chose to put the ring on the charm bracelet, “’Harrison wants to take me to some silly old baseball game. He’s been buzzing about it all week.’ Hadley sits up straighter. ‘Mom, he’s going to ask you to marry him again’” (Smith. 223. 8-11).  This explains the ring because Harrison is going to propose to Hadley’s mom at the game. I picked to do a charm bracelet because of all the things in the book that can be represented in symbols. I think that this will attract fans because first they will be able to wear it at all times, a nice dinner to school. This encourages fans to keep reading and involved with the book because they can add charms to it and it will keep them drawn back to the book. Another reason that this will keep old reader still into the book is because every time they wear it someone could ask them about it and they would answer and be connected with the book when they explain. If they are wearing it and people ask then they could find out about the book and then read it and spread the book around in the community.  The Eiffel tower represents Paris, where the book took place. The broken heart represents Hadley’s parent’s divorce. The wedding dress represents Hadley’s dad and Charlotte’s wedding. The suitcase represents the whole experience in the airport and flying to Paris. The wedding cake also represents Hadley’s dad and Charlotte’s wedding. The airplane represents the crazy flight and journey getting to the wedding. The ring represents Hadley’s mom about to be getting engaged and Hadley’s dad and Charlotte getting married.  Lastly, the heart represents Charlotte and Hadley’s dad, Hadley’s mom and Harrison, and Hadley and Oliver’s love for each other. In this picture, it shows a sample of what it could look like.
